About The Position

Akicita Federal is hiring an Ultrasound Technician to deliver high-quality diagnostic imaging services for the Indian Health Service (IHS) community in Pinon, AZ. Requirements

  • Active registration or certification as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (e.g., ARDMS or equivalent credentialing body).
  • Current, valid Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification.
  • Demonstrated clinical experience performing diagnostic ultrasound examinations across relevant modalities.
  • Ability to work a full-time schedule (approximately 40 hours per week) at the Pinon, AZ facility.
  • Must be able to provide documentation of education, credentials, and relevant clinical experience for credentialing review prior to start.
  • National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) self-query report required as part of the qualification process.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Prior experience providing imaging services in a federally qualified health center, tribal health program, or other Indian Health Service facility.
  • Familiarity with rural or frontier healthcare environments and the unique patient population and logistical challenges they present.
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary clinical team in a high-volume or resource-limited setting.
  • Cultural competency or prior engagement with Native American communities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a full range of diagnostic ultrasound procedures including abdominal, obstetric, gynecologic, vascular, and musculoskeletal imaging as ordered by providers.
  • Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment to ensure optimal image quality and patient safety throughout each examination.
  • Document findings accurately and completely in the patient health record in accordance with facility protocols and applicable standards.
  • Prepare patients for procedures by explaining the process, positioning them appropriately, and addressing questions or concerns to promote comfort and cooperation.
  • Communicate preliminary findings and escalate urgent or abnormal results to the ordering provider in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate with nursing staff, physicians, and other clinical team members to support efficient scheduling and continuity of patient care.
  • Maintain compliance with infection control, radiation safety, and quality assurance standards required by the facility and applicable regulatory bodies.
