About The Position

The Ultrasound Technologist performs basic diagnostic ultrasound procedures, as requested by a licensed physician. Exercises professional judgment in providing health care services, to assist in diagnosis or treatment of patients in all age groups from newborn to elderly. May be multi-credentialed in sonography.

Requirements

  • Must be registered with American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or the American Registry of Radiology Technologist in Sonography (ARRT).
  • Must have active healthcare provider Basic Life Support on hire (ARC or AHA); however, must have AHA Healthcare Provider BLS within 60 days of hire.

  • Associate degree
  • 2-5 years in Diagnostic Sonography
  • Must be registered with American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or the American Registry of Radiology Technologist in Sonography (ARRT).
  • Must have active healthcare provider Basic Life Support on hire (ARC or AHA); however, must have AHA Healthcare Provider BLS within 60 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Produces high quality diagnostic sonographs, by selecting and operating appropriate sonographic equipment
  • Evaluates images for technical quality, assuring proper identification and procedure is recorded, assists practitioner with sonography, and uses high frequency sound waves for the purpose of diagnostic images
  • Practices aseptic techniques as necessary, understands methods of venipuncture and other sterile techniques in agreement with state statues and/or where institutional policy permits
  • Prepares, identifies and/or administers contrast media as prescribed by a license’s practitioner.
  • Assists with amnio procedure biopsies if required.
  • Provides communications to patients for instructions and history in order to obtain desired results, by gaining cooperation and minimizing anxiety
  • Assumes responsibility for provision of physical safety and psychological needs of the patient during procedures
  • Positions patients to best demonstrate anatomical areas of interest as requested, by respecting patient’s ability, comfort and safety
  • Participates in the acquisition and dissemination of the patient’s history in order to evaluate and facilitate diagnostic results.
  • Implements protective measures to prevent patient injury due to thermal, electrical, mechanical, laser, chemical and radiation sources
  • Provides interpreting physician oral or written summary of technical findings.
  • Provides practical instruction, evaluation and precepting for students and/or other healthcare professionals
  • Assumes responsibility for assigned areas, quality control of equipment and reports equipment malfunction
  • Initiates anecdotal, incident, contrast agent variance and accident reports in a timely manner
  • Demonstrates knowledge in hazards involved in the use of soundwaves and if precautionary measures
  • Processes and files films as needed using RIS and PAC’s
  • Schedules and transports patients as needed
  • Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively
  • Maintains safe environment
  • Addresses patient population-specific needs
  • Participates in Performance Improvement activities
