About The Position

This is a per diem position working variable shifts and days. The Ultrasound Tech will participate with the Radiologist and/or physician by contributing technical and professional knowledge. They will review pathology, surgical and delivery reports, as appropriate, to follow patients progress and provide a means of reviewing the accuracy of the diagnostic exam. The role requires familiarity with ultrasound fundamentals such as appropriate transducer, gain, field of view, focal range, frame rate, dynamic range, etc., and the appropriate use of 2-D, 3-D, M-mode, Doppler, and color flow. Exam protocols must be followed as necessary, and clinical history must be correlated with the exam to be performed. The technician will confirm patient preparation, explain procedures, provide appropriate patient information, and generate proper images. They must recognize the significance of visualized structures, differentiate artifact from normal or pathologic processes, and determine if anatomy is normal or abnormal, appropriately delineating any deviations. The role involves performing abdominal, obstetric, gynecologic, venous and carotid Doppler, and various small parts ultrasound exams, consulting with the radiologist per exam, transporting patients, maintaining supplies, and performing/archiving paperwork. Responding to patient needs, maintaining patient confidentiality according to HIPAA, and maintaining professional growth and development are also key aspects of the role. Safety is paramount, including no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies related to security, MSDS, equipment, infection control, fire, disaster, safe lifting, and body mechanics. Compliance with organization policies, procedures, and labor agreements, as well as courteous and efficient interaction with team members and support groups, are expected. Professional conduct and appearance are also important.

Requirements

  • Graduation from fully accredited Sonography program.
  • One year of acute care Ultrasound Technologist experience required.
  • One American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) registry in either Abdomen or OB/GYN or ARDMS eligible.
  • ARDMS Eligible: One ARDMS registry in either abdomen or OB/GYN within 6 months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (HCP) level to be completed within three (3) months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Participate with Radiologist and/or physician by contributing technical and professional knowledge.
  • Review pathology, surgical and delivery reports, as appropriate, to follow patients progress and provide a means of reviewing the accuracy of the diagnostic exam.

  • Utilize appropriate use of 2-D, 3-D, M-mode, Doppler, and color flow.
  • Follow exam protocols as necessary.
  • Correlate the clinical history with the exam to be performed.
  • Confirm patient preparation and explain procedure to patient.
  • Provide appropriate patient information.
  • Generate proper images using appropriate imaging devices (camera, VHS, printer).
  • Recognize the significance of all structures that are visualized.
  • Differentiate artifact from normal or pathologic processes.
  • Determine if anatomy is normal or abnormal and appropriately delineate any Deviate from normal techniques when necessary.
  • Perform abdominal, obstetric, gynecologic, venous and carotid Doppler, and various small parts ultrasound exams.
  • Consults with radiologist per exam.
  • Transport patients.
  • Maintain supplies.
  • Perform and archive proper paperwork for exam.
  • Respond to patient needs and maintain patient confidentiality according to HIPAA regulations.
  • Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations.
  • Ensure no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies (security and safety, MSDS, equipment, infection control, fire, disaster, safe lifting and body mechanics).
  • Ensure self-compliance with organization policies and procedures, as well as labor agreements.
  • Ensure the interface with team members and other support groups is conducted in a courteous and efficient manner conducive with the organization’s values.
  • Conduct self in a professional manner and ensure personal appearance meets the standards necessary to perform the job function while representing the organization.
