About The Position

This position is for an Ultrasound Tech in the Vascular Lab at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center. The role involves performing a wide variety of technical procedures with quality patient care and assisting Physicians as needed. The position is covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with SEIU-UHW, requiring union membership within 31 days of hire. This position was initially posted for ratified SEIU members and is now open to internal non-members or external candidates.

Requirements

  • Satisfactory completion of a formal training program in an AMA approved school and meets the requirements of an appropriate State and/or Federal mandated certification or equivalent.
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association - REQUIRED
  • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography OR Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) - Cardiovascular Credentialing International - REQUIRED

Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide variety of technical procedures with quality patient care, assisting Physicians as needed.
  • Provide pre and post procedure education and reassurance to patients and families, including details about the procedure, physician, contrast administration, positioning, and reporting.
  • Interact and communicate with patients and their families in a manner that reflects an understanding of the patient's age, culture, state of health, and level of comprehension, ensuring a positive and supportive experience while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Understand and apply appropriate imaging techniques to achieve the highest quality study obtainable.
  • Perform exams and position patients according to department imaging, cardiac, or vascular ultrasound protocols.
  • Label and identify studies correctly using legal marker sets.
  • Use imaging equipment proficiently.
  • Use imaging agents (contrast) according to protocol.
  • Perform routine and special procedure exams as assigned.
  • Verify patient identification and pregnancy status if appropriate.
  • Assist Radiologist or Cardiologist in procedures while practicing sterile techniques to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Deliver safe, efficient, and therapeutic care.
  • Perform proper procedures on the correct patient.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of universal precautions and sterile techniques.
  • Observe the patient, report any changes in status, and initiate appropriate action to ensure a positive outcome.
  • Follow patient's Advanced Directive, if applicable.
  • Follow HIPAA guidelines for PHI as appropriate.
