About The Position

Under direct supervision of the Chief Ultrasound Technologist, Director of Radiology, Chairman or Manager, the Ultrasound Student Technologist performs Ultrasound exams and related techniques resulting in the interpretation by, or at the request of, a licensed practitioner. The student's work must be supervised at all times by a registered Technologist (e.g. may not work a shift alone).

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited education program and must remain in good standing.
  • Must have a current certification from the American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
  • Successful completion of two semesters in a nationally recognized and accredited Sonography Program required.

  • The Ultrasound Chief Technologist has the right to deny employment if he/she believes the student does not possess the required aptitude and technical skills needed for the position.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Registered Sonographer, performs ultrasound exams in accordance with department and regulatory standards.
  • Assesses pertinent information, prepares and educates patient for procedures and expectations.
  • Completes documentation of patient care and procedure.
  • Utilizes the hospital and departmental information, technology systems, and equipment operations.
  • Maintains a level of productivity, adaptability, flexibility, and timeliness in managing workload and processes required to meet patient care and department needs.
  • Adheres to department policy and procedures, and practices modality specific safety protocols.
  • Completes hospital, departmental, and professional requirements.
  • Participates in assignments, duties, and responsibilities for continuous improvement in alignment with management and organizational goals.
