The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer performs Ultrasound procedures according to established protocol to obtain diagnostic information as ordered by a licensed physician or their designated health care provider. They provide information to the patient about the purpose of the ultrasound procedure and respond to the patient's questions and concerns. The role requires recognizing the patient's individuality and providing quality care in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner using professional and ethical judgment. Maintaining continued competence through lifelong learning, which includes continuing education, acquisition of specialty specific credentials, and recredentialing, is essential. The sonographer performs diverse imaging across the spectrum of sonography.
