An ultrasound technician or sonographer operates imaging equipment, balances patient interaction and technological performance with a firm knowledge of anatomy and pathology by working cohesively with a healthcare team.

Requirements

  • Training from an accredited program with cardiac concentration
  • BLS certification required within 30 days of employment and prior to providing direct patient care

Nice To Haves

  • 6 months of ultrasound experience preferred with concentration in cardiac

Responsibilities

  • Performing a variety of cardiac ultrasounds including transesophageal and transthoracic imaging and ensuring the transducer (probe) is capturing images correctly and the proper technique is used
  • Explain the ultrasound procedure to patients in order to avoid confusion.
  • Use positioning tools and safety equipment properly to ensure patient safety.
  • Ensuring the patient is procedure ready by reviewing medical records prior to the appointment and have a clear understanding of the images required and the correct order is present
  • Prepare, Maintain, trouble shoot and clean ultrasound equipment.
  • Prepare and maintain the room in which the procedure takes place ensuring proper sterilization and safety procedures are followed
  • Advanced understanding of human anatomy and medical terminology along with maintaining all necessary credentials and keeping up to date on emerging technologies within the field of cardiac ultrasound.
  • Present quality images and preliminary findings to physicians and the healthcare team
  • Maintaining patient records and documenting notes related to the ultrasound procedure
  • Strong social perceptiveness, professional demeanor, critical thinking, clear communication, active listening and customer service awareness
  • Maintains fiscal responsibility and participates in process improvement initiatives and supports the vision of the collective team.
