About The Position

Works under minimal supervision with the physicians to perform ultrasound imaging exams, exam protocols, accreditation, operations, and facilitation of equipment maintenance. The role involves maintaining a clean and orderly work area, ensuring proper equipment function, responding to inquiries, communicating issues, and engaging in equitable distribution of workloads. The sonographer will also participate in training new employees and students, perform quality control on equipment, attend meetings, and complete required courses. Patient interaction includes verifying identification, communicating professionally, ensuring proper preparation, evaluating history and symptoms, instructing patients and families, and assessing their ability to tolerate the exam. The sonographer must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge for various age groups (newborn, pediatric, young adult, adult, and geriatric). Exam performance includes a variety of grayscale, color, and duplex imaging exams such as carotid, extremity venous and arterial studies, abdominal Doppler, small parts, OB/GYN, and general abdominal/body exams. They will perform non-invasive imaging evaluation of arteries and veins, verify requisitions, perform high-quality US examinations according to protocol, assist physicians as needed, ensure proper image and record completion, utilize technical skills for accurate and timely exams, complete exam charges and documentation, store images in PACS, and administer contrast material while observing for adverse reactions. Job performance may also include monitoring and training students and residents, assisting in new staff orientation, participating in QA/QC programs, assisting in accreditation processes, organizing conferences, and arranging for equipment maintenance and repair.

Requirements

• Associate's Degree Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Graduate of an Accredited Sonography Program
• (ARDMS) AMER REGIS DIAG MED SONO American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography
• (RVT) REGISTERED VASCULAR TECH Registered Vascular Technologist or (RVS) REGISTERED VASCULAR SPECIALIST Registered Vascular Specialist
• (BLS) BASIC LIFE SUPPORT Certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) by first day of employment
• In the event that a sonographer is hired without RVT or RVS certification, they must obtain RVT certification within six (6) months of their hire date.
• 2 years Experience in ultrasound

• Instructs/communicates with patient and/or patients family (as appropriate) regarding the tests to be performed and assesses the patients ability to tolerate exam.
• Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge, continued education and skills to provide appropriate care for the following age groups (specific to department): newborn, pediatric, young adult, adult and geriatric.
• Performs grayscale, color, and duplex imaging exams to include carotid, extremity venous and arterial studies, abdominal Doppler, small parts, OB/GYN, general abdominal/body or other exams as assigned.
• Performs non-invasive imaging evaluation of arteries and veins by Doppler and plethysmographic techniques.
• Verifies the requisition/chart for valid written order, priority date, ordering comments, physician's notes, precautions and patient consent forms.
• Performs high quality US examinations according to exam protocol in a timely manner.
• Assists the physician as needed in performing additional imaging or biopsy procedures.
• Ensures that images and records are properly completed with patient identification data and appropriate labeling.
• Utilizes technical knowledge and skills to perform exams accurately and in a timely manner in accordance with age specific criteria.
• Completes exam charges and image documentation and ensures all images are stored in PACS and appropriately communicated to radiologist or advanced practice sonographer in a timely manner.
• Administers contrast material as appropriate, observes patients for adverse reactions.
• Monitors and trains students and residents in all areas of current competencies.
• Assists in the orientation and training of new staff.
• Participates in the modality specific QA/QC program and ensures compliance with regulations.
• Participates in various accreditation processes as directed.
• Organizes and participates in conferences, seminars, and technical meetings.
• Arranges for maintenance and repair of equipment following maintenance contract to eliminate or decrease down time of equipment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
