About The Position

The Ultrasonographer, under the direction of the Radiologist, DI Administration and/or Lead Ultrasonographer performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgement, ingenuity and initiative in the application of non-ionizing, high frequency ultrasonic waves to patients for diagnosis of disease.

Requirements

  • Completed 2 years of an approved paramedical school required.
  • Attended an approved school for Diagnostic Ultrasound or have equivalent experience which is accepted by the American Society of Ultrasound Technologists, or the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine is also required.
  • Within 1 year of the first day of employment, employee must successfully obtain full ARDMS Certification (including Physics and an additional anatomic specific registry).
  • Must earn 30 CME credits every three years as required by the Ultrasound registry.
  • CPR – Current AHA Healthcare Provider Certification / equivalent within 3 months of hire is required.
  • 1-2 years working in an Ultrasound environment required.
  • Required learn to perform duplex carotid, peri-vascular, doppler, stress and trans-esophageal echocardiography and exams under the direction of the Senior Ultrasonographers and Lead Ultrasonographer.
  • Proficient in these categories within 9 months of the beginning of training is required.
  • High degree of technical aptitude with an in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
  • Knowledge of computer keyboard, programs and menus

Nice To Haves

  • Experience and registration in all aspects of abdominal, pelvic, OB-GYN, trans-vaginal and small parts sonography preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Move transducer, by hand, over specified area of body and observe sound wave display on screen to monitor quality of ultrasonic pattern produced.
  • Perform abdominal, pelvic, OB-GYN, transvaginal and small parts sonography. Photograph information necessary for interpretation.
  • Set, adjust, manipulate, control and maintain a variety of complex electronic equipment to apply non-ionizing, high frequency ultrasonic waves to patients for diagnosis of disease.
  • Explain procedure to the patient. Instruct and assist patient in assuming physical position for exam.
  • Discuss test findings with the radiologist.
  • Key test data and patient information into computer of U/S equipment to maintain record of test results.
