About The Position

At NorthBay Health, the Ultrasonographer I works closely under the review of the Ultrasound III and Radiologist. Under regular check-ins and supervision, this role coordinates the daily patient schedule for Ultrasound (U/S), performs U/S studies, and ensures correct processing and handling. The position also involves ensuring proper equipment maintenance and cleanliness, assisting clerical staff when possible, and attending seminars and in-services. A key aspect of this role is promoting a cooperative and positive relationship with physicians and other hospital staff/departments.

  • Staff-level positions use a step-based system (Steps 1–5) based on years of directly related experience, with Step 5 representing 20 or more years of experience in the role.

Responsibilities

  • Performs ultrasound examinations in accordance with established protocols under the review of Ultrasonographer III.
  • Reviews ultrasound requisitions for completeness and validity of examinations being requested.
  • Assists and instructs patients prior to and during examinations.
  • Responsible for evaluating each study to ensure it meets required quality standards.
  • Responsible for patient confidentiality, safety and well-being during examinations.
  • Responsible for inspecting and cleaning equipment prior to and after each patient.
  • Reports all equipment failures and/or malfunctions to the Diagnostic Imaging outpatient supervisor.
  • Reports all patient complaints and discrepancies to the Diagnostic Imaging outpatient supervisor.
  • Responsible for organizing and scanning paperwork into the Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) and completing examination charges through the Radiology Information System (RIS).
  • Other duties as assigned
