UI/UX Product Designer

AdvancedMDSouth Jordan, UT
Hybrid

About The Position

AdvancedMD is seeking a design-driven UI/UX Product Designer to own the design function for their cloud suite of medical office software. This role involves embedding AI across the clinical and patient journey, translating AI strategy into user experiences, and partnering closely with product, engineering, and clinical experts. The designer will be responsible for both the EHR/PM platform and patient-facing experiences, focusing on reducing cognitive load, building trust, and delivering high-quality design from concept to production. This is a builder's role with the autonomy to define problems and utilize AI as an accelerator in the design process.

Requirements

  • 3–6 years of product design experience in B2B SaaS, healthtech, or enterprise software, with hands-on AI feature design work within the last 1–2 years
  • Demonstrated experience designing AI-powered features: surfacing model outputs, communicating confidence levels, building human-override interactions, and designing for asynchronous AI processing
  • Proficiency in Figma and familiarity with modern design system tooling — tokens, component libraries, and variant architecture
  • Comfort designing within regulated, auditable workflows — you understand HIPAA-constrained data handling and why certain AI outputs require a human-in-the-loop checkpoint
  • Ability to operate independently in ambiguous problem spaces — you define the problem as often as you receive one
  • Strong cross-functional communication: you can translate design rationale to engineers, PMs, and clinical stakeholders without jargon
  • Genuine fluency with AI design tools in your daily workflow — evidenced in your portfolio and process, not just mentioned on a resume

Nice To Haves

  • You don't just ship screens — you walk into the room with a point of view on the right way to surface an AI suggestion, when to show confidence, when to stay quiet, and when to ask the user — and you can defend it when challenged
  • You've redesigned something already in production because the shipped version didn't meet your standard, not because you were asked
  • You've sat across from engineers and clinical stakeholders with a complex, constraint-heavy workflow and turned it into something quiet, precise, and usable — through your own hands, not just direction
  • You're as comfortable in a research session or usability test as you are presenting a high-fidelity prototype to leadership, and the outputs of both reflect the same standard of rigor
  • You understand both clinical-workflow and patient-experience design and can build systems that don't just serve one user type — they give the whole care journey a coherent, unified feel
  • You bring a builder's patience: you're energized by ambiguity, fragmented starting conditions, and the work of standing something up from scratch rather than frustrated by it
  • You find the phrase "we'll figure out UX later" genuinely alarming — and you've said so out loud

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the design owner for AI-assisted charting surfaces — ambient documentation, AI-generated note drafts, and smart template suggestions — that reduce cognitive load for clinicians without disrupting their workflow
  • Own UX for specialty-specific workflows across AdvancedMD's 30+ clinical specialties, balancing customization with platform coherence
  • Identify and eliminate friction in billing, coding, and prior authorization flows through research-driven redesign
  • Collaborate with clinical SMEs to ensure designs reflect real-world practice patterns, not idealized workflows
  • Design end-to-end patient-facing journeys: digital intake forms, insurance verification, self-scheduling, kiosk check-in, two-way messaging, and post-visit follow-up
  • Build AI-native UX patterns for no-show prediction nudges, automated recall flows, and personalized patient communications
  • Ensure patient-facing surfaces are accessible, mobile-optimized, and usable across varying levels of digital literacy
  • Benchmark AdvancedMD's native intake and engagement capabilities against market-leading point solutions and identify design gaps worth closing
  • Own the use of AI tools — Figma AI, Claude, generative variant tools — as a genuine accelerator in your design process, not a novelty
  • Build and maintain scalable design system components that serve both clinical and patient-facing surfaces
  • Prototype at the fidelity the question demands — lo-fi to validate direction, hi-fi to validate execution
  • Conduct or facilitate formative research (interviews, usability tests, contextual inquiry) to ground design decisions in real user behavior
  • Partner closely with engineering during implementation, reviewing builds and flagging where quality has diverged from spec

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation and total rewards benefits
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with generous company match
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Hybrid and remote work opportunities
  • Career growth and development support
  • Collaborative, team-oriented culture
