UI/UX Product Designer

Balanced BodySacramento, CA
Onsite

About The Position

Movement changes lives — and for nearly 50 years, Balanced Body has led the world in Pilates equipment and education, pairing mindful movement with world-class engineering. From our solar-powered headquarters in Sacramento, we manufacture premium equipment that helps people feel better and move more freely . We're growing our marketing team and looking for a creative, sharp, strategically-minded UI/UX Product Designer to help shape how people experience Balanced Body online. A note on the role: this is a design role first and foremost — not software development. You'll own the end-to-end visual and interactive design of our digital products, from user research and wireframing through high-fidelity prototypes. You'll also handle final front-end implementation and visual customization in our CMS platforms (WordPress and Shopify) — but you won't be writing backend code. You'll report to the Marketing Manager and partner closely with our web development team, serving as the crucial link that turns your designs into flawless, functioning reality.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in a dedicated UI/UX or Product Design role, comfortable owning timelines and major deliverables independently.
  • Bachelor's in a design field (Interaction Design, Visual Communication, Graphic Design, HCI) preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Portfolio: End-to-end product thinking — UX workflows, interaction design, responsive structures, and refined final execution. A trained eye for type, color, and hierarchy is a must.
  • Systems Thinking: Deep understanding of component-based design systems, mobile-first design, and adapting high-fidelity work across breakpoints.
  • Tools: Expert in Figma (auto-layout, variants, design tokens); strong in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • CMS Fluency: Experience managing the presentation layer in WordPress (Gutenberg/Elementor) and Shopify (theme config, app integrations).
  • Front-End Literacy: Foundational HTML5, CSS3/SCSS, and responsive layout knowledge — enough to collaborate fluently with developers.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing localized, multi-language, culturally-tailored interfaces for global audiences.
  • Awareness of how visual and layout choices affect SEO, page speed, and Core Web Vitals.
  • Experience using AI tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Figma Make) to speed up design workflows and component drafting.

Responsibilities

  • Design Execution — Craft polished, high-fidelity mockups and interactive prototypes in Figma with clean user flows, strong visual hierarchy, and refined aesthetics.
  • Ecommerce Experience Design — Design and optimize PDPs, collection pages, navigation, merchandising, and conversion-focused landing pages, meeting WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA accessibility and responsive design standards.
  • Analytics & Iteration — Dig into analytics, heatmaps, and session recordings to spot friction points, form hypotheses, and drive iterative UX improvements.
  • UX Writing & Microcopy — Own the words that guide the journey: CTAs, error messages, modals, onboarding, and tooltips.
  • Design Implementation — Manage the look and feel of our web properties, customizing responsive layouts in WordPress and Shopify to match approved Figma prototypes and design systems.
  • Continuous UX Research — Run ongoing user research, usability testing, and heuristic evaluations to keep our platforms grounded in UX best practice.
  • Cross-Functional Balancing — Act as creative consultant across marketing, development, and SEO — making agile adjustments without compromising design integrity.
  • Visual Asset Creation — Produce polished marketing assets: banners, icons, UI components, and promotional graphics.
