About The Position

GovCIO is currently hiring for a UI/UX Graphic Designer to support Veterans Affairs (VA) Data Modernization initiatives. This role involves designing slide decks, graphics, customer journeys, and high-level screen designs (sketches/wireframes) by collaborating closely with GovCIO team members, business owners, and customers to build the right product. The successful candidate will thrive in an Agile development environment, demonstrating the ability to manage both time and scope within quick development iterations. This position is fully remote and located within the United States.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of experience (or commensurate experience).
  • Proven UI design experience.
  • Experience with mock-up and wireframe tools, such as Adobe Creative Cloud and Sketch.
  • Experience delivering products that work across a range of browsers and platforms.
  • Understanding of 508 Accessibility standards.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills (ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a suitability/Public Trust clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
  • Familiarity with Agile Software Development.
  • Experience delivering and meeting 508 Accessibility standards.
  • Experience with PowerBI.
  • At least one Agile certification (e.g., PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP), Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Certified Scrum Professional (CSP), SAFe Agilist (SA), or SAFe Program Consultant).
  • Experience working with at least one of the following Agile tools: IBM Rational (RM, CM, QM), ServiceNow Agile, CA Rally, JIRA or TFS, ALM, or VerionOne.

Responsibilities

  • Refine the presentation of VA briefings, slide decks, SharePoint pages, dashboards, and other materials.
  • Employ participatory design, creative brainstorming, and other techniques to collaborate with software developers, systems engineers, and other product team members as part of an agile software development team.
  • Ensure applications meet IT Accessibility Standards.
  • Collect and analyze user research data to understand the user population and identify trends and insights.
  • Map workflows, user paths, create storyboards, wireframes, mockups, low and high-fidelity prototypes, and write UI specifications to support development across multiple applications and platforms.
  • Design graphics, icons, and other visual elements as necessary.
  • Evaluate designs using user-centric design techniques such as UI reviews and cognitive walk-throughs.
  • Maintain an awareness of current trends in technology design and usability, and share this information across multiple teams.
  • Participate in working groups and/or meetings with application stakeholders to discuss user requirements and/or present wireframes and mockups.
