About The Position

The UI/UX Designer is a multidisciplinary member of the design process for immersive learning experiences at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine & Science. The role works with UX researchers to understand the experience of different audiences and develop visual approaches through iterative prototype testing. The designer applies knowledge of learning science, instructional design, and medical and simulation-based education while partnering with educators, clinical subject matter experts, simulation staff, 3D artists, medical illustrators, animators, XR engineers, and other content specialists. The position designs and iterates on immersive and XR applications, including AI-driven virtual patient simulations, interactive 3D anatomy experiences, and patient-focused learning apps. Designs prioritize usability, trust, clinical accuracy, accessibility, and user needs. The designer creates wireframes, mockups for multiple screen sizes, prototypes, conversational AI interactions, and design specifications for developers, while considering feasibility and performance constraints. The work includes spatial interaction design, comfort and motion-sickness considerations, interaction methods such as hands, controllers, gaze, and voice, and XR accessibility. The designer participates in user research and testing, incorporates findings and Mayo Clinic brand identity into design patterns, and collaborates with stakeholders and developers on navigation, interaction patterns, digital storytelling, and implementation. The role also works with HTML, CSS, content management systems, and an institutional design system to support brand-consistent digital experiences. On-site presence is required, with flexibility to work from home as needed during the week after orientation. The position combines remote and on-site work, and the employee must live within a 100-mile driving distance of the Rochester Mayo Clinic campus. Visa sponsorship is not available, and Mayo Clinic does not participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.
