About The Position

The Underground Mobile Maintenance Planner is responsible for developing, coordinating, and continuously improving maintenance plans for underground mobile mining equipment. The role ensures maintenance activities are safely, efficiently, and reliably planned and executed to maximize equipment availability, reliability, and production performance. Working closely with Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and external vendors, the Planner develops detailed preventive and corrective maintenance work packages, coordinates resources and materials, manages maintenance schedules, and supports the continuous improvement of the site's mobile equipment maintenance strategy. The position will primarily support underground mobile equipment such as load-haul-dump (LHD) machines, underground haul trucks, bolters, jumbos, utility vehicles, graders, cable bolters, shotcrete equipment, and other diesel or electrically powered mobile equipment.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in mobile equipment maintenance, preferably within underground mining, heavy industry, or a similar environment.
  • Demonstrated experience planning and scheduling maintenance activities for heavy mobile equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of underground mining equipment and diesel/electrical mobile equipment maintenance.
  • Experience working with preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Experience developing detailed maintenance work packages and labor/material estimates.
  • Experience using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) such as SAP, IBM Maximo, Pronto, or equivalent.
  • Experience with maintenance backlog management, weekly scheduling, shutdown planning, and work-order management.
  • Experience working collaboratively with Maintenance, Operations, Reliability, Supply Chain, and contractors.
  • Demonstrated understanding of equipment reliability principles and maintenance best practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Post-secondary education in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Heavy Equipment Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or a related technical discipline preferred.
  • A recognized Red Seal/trades qualification or equivalent heavy-duty/mobile equipment maintenance qualification is highly desirable.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, technical training, and relevant mining maintenance experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain short-, medium-, and long-range maintenance plans for underground mobile equipment.
  • Build detailed work packages that define job scope, labor requirements, parts, tools, equipment, permits, procedures, and estimated durations.
  • Plan preventive, predictive, corrective, and major component replacement activities.
  • Coordinate weekly and daily maintenance schedules with Maintenance Supervisors and Operations.
  • Ensure planned work is prioritized according to equipment criticality, safety requirements, production priorities, and available resources.
  • Develop shutdown and major maintenance plans for underground mobile equipment.
  • Maintain an appropriate balance between planned and unplanned maintenance activities.
  • Review maintenance notifications and work requests to determine scope, priority, and planning requirements.
  • Ensure work orders contain accurate job plans, labor estimates, parts lists, technical information, and safety requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to bundle related maintenance activities to reduce equipment downtime.
  • Verify that completed work is properly documented and that outstanding work is accurately carried forward.
  • Monitor work-order quality, schedule compliance, backlog, and maintenance performance indicators.
  • Participate in weekly scheduling and backlog review meetings.
  • Identify and reserve required spare parts, components, consumables, tooling, and specialized equipment before scheduled work begins.
  • Coordinate with Warehouse, Procurement, and Supply Chain to ensure materials are available when required.
  • Identify long-lead and critical components and communicate potential risks to maintenance leadership.
  • Coordinate external contractors and specialist vendors when required.
  • Develop labor-hour estimates and ensure appropriate trades and resources are available for planned work.
  • Develop maintenance plans that account for the unique operating conditions of an underground mine, including restricted access, ventilation requirements, underground logistics, ground conditions, shift schedules, and equipment availability.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with mine operations to minimize disruption to production and development activities.
  • Ensure maintenance plans consider underground access, equipment isolation, permits, lockout/tagout requirements, and safe work locations.
  • Support equipment readiness planning for production-critical mining activities.
  • Maintain awareness of underground mining methods and the operating requirements of mobile mining fleets.
