About The Position

Terra Sense Analytics is seeking a skilled Mechatronics Technician to join their team. This role is crucial for the design, maintenance, repair, and problem-solving of complex automated equipment, leveraging mechanical, electrical, and software expertise. The technician will contribute to the company's products and support new product development. The ideal candidate is self-driven, honest, and passionate about advancing AI/deep learning. This is a hybrid position, with a preference for candidates in Calgary, AB, though the head office is in Kelowna, BC.

Requirements

  • Diploma, technical certification, or higher in mechatronics, robotics, electronics engineering technology, or a related technical field.
  • A minimum of 1-3 years of hands-on experience assembling, maintaining, or repairing drones or advanced electromechanical/robotics systems.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Proficiency with soldering, crimping, and using electronics tools such as multimeters.
  • Hands-on experience with embedded Linux and NVIDIA Jetson platforms (L4T).
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • The ability to lift up to 50lbs and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information professionally.
  • Must be eligible to attain a high-level Security Clearance (Secret minimum) and maintain clean criminal record checks as per contract compliance.
  • Candidates must be able to provide a verifiable 10-year history of residence, employment, and/or education to meet federal background check requirements.
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada.
  • Must have lived in Canada for the last 10 years.
  • Must not have travelled outside Canada for more than 6 consecutive months at a given time during the last 10 years.
  • Must disclose if they possess dual citizenship and provide details.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ground control stations (GCS) and flight controller software is preferred.
  • A Valid Transport Canada Advanced RPAS Pilot Certificate (or ability to obtain within 3 months) and a clean Class 5 driver's license is preferred.
  • Previous military experience, or experience working with the military as a civilian employee/contractor is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the in-house subject matter expert for troubleshooting and repairing complex automated equipment, particularly unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
  • Contribute to the delivery of complex solutions and features for company projects and products, including sensor integrations, real-time data processing, automated target recognition, and data fusion.
  • Bridge the gap between software and hardware in collaboration with technical and team leads.
  • Be involved in the production of mission-critical hardware and support the software development team by ensuring hardware operates safely and efficiently.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and software issues in automated equipment and robotics, with a focus on UAVs.
  • Ensure equipment is fit for purpose through routine inspections, maintenance, and calibrations for peak operational performance.
  • Monitor, diagnose, and modify programmable logic controller programs and human-machine-interface configurations.
  • Build and configure multi-rotor and/or fixed-wing UAV airframes.
  • Integrate payloads, sensors, etc.
  • Fabricate harnesses, route power distribution systems, and solder components to aerospace quality standards.
  • Perform pre-flight bench tests, continuity checks, firmware updates, and sensor calibrations; troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and software anomalies.
  • Assist field and flight teams during field deployments, performing on-site repairs, routine maintenance, and equipment inspections.
  • Maintain accurate build records, Bill of Materials (BOM), and incident/repair logs.
