About The Position

DLA Piper's Finance group is seeking exceptional law students to join the summer program in the following offices: Chicago, Miami, New York, and San Diego. Candidates may be considered for a 1L position (2027 summer) or a 2L position (2028 summer). The program seeks candidates with an entrepreneurial mindset, who are motivated to build their legal skills and gain insight into client needs. The firm values innovators and creative thinkers. Summer associates in the Finance group will receive a tailored experience working on transactional matters along with pro bono opportunities. The program includes in-depth training focused on development and preparation for the future. Participants will be assigned a team for support and feedback, and will have opportunities to build their network through social events. The 10-week program provides insight into life as an associate at DLA Piper. Ideal candidates will have a demonstrated interest in Finance and a background or education in business or finance. In the cover letter, candidates should indicate their preferred DLA Piper office location and their interest in the 2027 summer (1L), 2028 summer (2L), or both. Requirements

  • Class of 2029 law students.
  • Demonstrated interest in Finance.
  • Background or education in business or finance.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, with clients, lawyers, business professionals, and third parties.
  • Ability to produce deliverables, answer phone calls, and reply to correspondence in an efficient and responsive manner.
  • Ability to provide timely, accurate, and quality work product.
  • Ability to successfully meet deadlines, expectations, and perform work duties as required.
  • Ability to foster positive work relationships.
  • Ability to comply with all firm policies and practices.
  • Ability to engage in both physical and sedentary activity, such as (a) working at a computer for extended periods of time, including on-screen reading and typing; (b) participating in digital/virtual conference calls; (c) participating in meetings as needed.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to perform all other duties, tasks or projects as assigned.

Benefits
