About The Position

Under the direction of the Director of Educational Support Systems and Principal, provides intensive tutorial services to students based on a curriculum program developed by the school and teachers. Maintains effective relationships with students, parents, and other staff members.

Requirements

  • High degree of interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail, and adaptability.
  • Associate’s Degree in education, Bachelor of Arts degree in education or content area preferred.
  • One or more years relevant experience required.
  • Ability to read and interpret textbooks, procedures, or assignments.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as the fundamentals of algebra, and geometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Ability to assess situations, solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where some standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to provide lessons based on content and school objectives and with the needs and abilities of assigned students in mind.
  • Is knowledgeable with special education regulations in order to participate in Instructional Educational Plans (IEP) teams and knowledgeable of appropriate behavior management techniques in order to carry out student IEP accommodations and goals at times.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and board policies.
  • Frequently required to stand, talk and hear and sometimes walk and sit.
  • May occasionally push or lift up to 35 lbs.
  • The employee is directly responsible for safety, well-being, or work output of students.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision such as to read and written or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The position requires the individual to interact with students, the public and other staff.
  • Must be able to work with others in a collegial and cooperative manner, must show acceptable interpersonal skills and follow directions of school leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Presents subject matter to students under the director and guidance of teachers, using learning tools, discussion, and/or technology.
  • Provides academic assistance to assigned students, either individually or in a small group to master assignments, to reinforce learning concepts, and to develop necessary study skills.
  • Adapts tutoring to fit the capabilities of the assigned student, as necessary, according to their IEP.
  • Maintains effective professional interactions with students, parents, and appropriate contacts by working directly with the teacher or case manager to provide student services.
  • Helping students develop positive attitudes towards learning and studying.
  • Enabling students to take responsibility for their actions and help them to develop coping skills.
  • Serving as a positive role model for appropriate student behavior.
  • Works with the student’s teacher/Special Educator to ensure appropriate services are provided by reviewing and comprehending the IEP process and the accommodations required for each assigned student.
  • Adjusts tutoring plans accordingly.
  • Evaluating students' academic and personal growth.
  • Keeping accurate and appropriate records and prepares periodic assessments.
  • Participating in assigned students’ IEP meetings, as requested.
  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Supervises the work output of students.
  • Monitors student behavior through the appropriate District behavior program.
