About The Position

The City of Santa Ana is looking for individuals who are results-oriented, possess a great attitude, demonstrate creativity and innovation, work efficiently, show a record of success and have a passion for public service. Having highly talented employees provides the best service to our community. This is a part-time position. The incumbent will work up to 19 hours per week. Work schedule may include mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Bilingual pay is an additional $1.01/hour, if applicable. There are currently four (4) vacancies in the Youth Services division.

Requirements

  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
  • Completed or currently enrolled in a university or college with a major in one of these preferred areas: math, science, writing, social sciences, or human services.
  • A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required.
  • Experience with computers in a Windows environment or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the desired knowledge and abilities in computer technology.
  • Ability to lead one-on-one or small group lessons that cater to the needs and goals of learners of all ages.
  • Understand and communicate with people in a wide range of ages from youth to senior citizens.
  • Perform simple computer troubleshooting tasks when necessary.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with the public, volunteers, and other employees.
  • Must be able to work a minimum of 15 hours per week, which may include mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that provides strong skills in those areas may also be considered.
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish or Vietnamese is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance and instruction to students in elementary through high school with homework and tutoring in math, English, science, social studies, library skills, and related subjects.
  • Provide assistance and instruction to a wide range of students in the use of computers, the Internet, computer applications, and electronic resources.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly environment conducive to studying and learning.
  • Assist in planning, organizing, promoting and conducting educational activities or programs for students.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of library goals and objectives.
  • Participate cooperatively in work team activities and may be required to perform other library-related tasks as assigned.
