About The Position

The Children’s Aid Afterschool in Action Program/Teen Program at the Salome Urena Campus, funded by the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) is an afterschool enrichment program operating Monday through Friday, from 2:00pm to 6:00pm. The Tutor will assist the group Facilitator to provide tutorial help for students with their homework, additional educational instruction, social emotional learning, and the opportunity to engage middle school age children in an array of enriching sports and art-based activities.

Requirements

• High School student or pursuing an associate or a bachelor’s Degree.

Nice To Haves

• At least one-year experience working with children, tutoring, or teaching is highly preferred.
• Field of study in Education or Social Work.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Facilitator on the supervision and care of (up to) 20 children, which comprise a group or club.
• Engage the middle school age children in fun learning activities; as well as provide a safe and respectful environment to our youth.
• Provide individual and group tutoring in areas such as reading, writing, mathematics, and study skills.
• Assist the Facilitator to develop classroom and behavioral management skills, implement professionally developed literacy-based curriculum, and develop relationships with children and their families.
• Assist the Facilitator in the design, plan and lead the implementation of special projects in and out of program.
• Be punctual, responsible, have a positive attitude and provide encouragement to children.
• Assist in activities or tasks necessary to ensure an orderly operation of the program: supervise children during supper, ensures CA devices are properly signed out and that all equipment is properly cleaned and returned.
• Plan, teach, supervise, and organize games.
• Attend regular staff meetings, trainings and work cooperatively with other staff members in the program and in the schools.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
