About The Position

The Tutor provides targeted academic support to middle and high school students to strengthen content knowledge, improve academic skills, increase student confidence, and promote successful completion of coursework. The Tutor works collaboratively with classroom teachers and school administrators to provide individualized or small-group instruction aligned with classroom expectations and student learning needs. The successful candidate will create a positive, supportive learning environment; use a variety of instructional strategies; monitor student progress; and encourage students to take ownership of their learning.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with middle and/or high school students.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge or competency in the academic subject(s) for which tutoring will be provided.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with students and maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, students, and families as appropriate.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in education, a related academic field, or equivalent coursework.
  • Previous tutoring, teaching, mentoring, coaching, or youth-development experience.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.
  • Familiarity with instructional technology and digital learning tools.
  • Experience supporting students who need additional academic intervention or enrichment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized and/or small-group tutoring to students in assigned subject areas.
  • Reinforce concepts and skills taught by classroom teachers.
  • Assist students with understanding assignments, developing study strategies, organizing coursework, and preparing for assessments.
  • Use appropriate instructional strategies to address varied learning styles, academic needs, and skill levels.
  • Help students develop problem-solving, critical-thinking, communication, organization, and independent-learning skills.
  • Monitor student participation, progress, and areas of continued need.
  • Communicate regularly with classroom teachers and appropriate school personnel regarding student needs and progress.
  • Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions, student participation, and progress as required by the school.
  • Encourage students to set realistic academic goals and develop strategies for achieving them.
  • Provide constructive feedback that supports student growth and academic confidence.
  • Establish and maintain a respectful, inclusive, and academically focused learning environment.
  • Support students in becoming responsible and independent learners rather than completing work for them.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student records, academic performance, and other sensitive information.
  • Follow all school and district policies, procedures, safety requirements, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Attend required meetings, training, or professional development activities as directed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
