About The Position

OpenLiteracy is dedicated to improving literacy rates among fourth graders, with a mission to change that one student at a time. They offer a range of products and services, including a reading curriculum based on the Science of Reading, Tier 2 intervention support, and high-impact Tier 3 tutoring. The organization is seeking passionate, certified educators to join their tutoring team and significantly impact children's literacy outcomes nationwide. The Tutor Session Monitor role is essential for the daily operation of OpenLiteracy's tutoring program. This position involves monitoring live tutoring sessions, managing tutor emergencies and technical issues in real-time, and stepping in to teach when necessary. During slower periods, the role includes supporting the broader team with operational tasks. This role offers a unique opportunity for certified educators seeking flexible, remote work that keeps them connected to students and teaching without the full demands of a traditional classroom. The ideal candidate thrives under pressure, thinks quickly, and ensures a positive student experience even in challenging situations.

Requirements

  • Current or expired K-6 teaching certification (must be able to provide a copy)
  • K-6 classroom teaching experience with a focus on reading
  • Strong grounding in the Science of Reading: phonics, structured literacy, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension instruction
  • Comfortable stepping into a tutoring session with little to no advance notice
  • Available Monday-Thursday during daytime hours
  • Able to commit to a consistent, reliable schedule of 8-20 hours per week
  • U.S. work authorization, U.S. mailing address, and ability to receive U.S. bank deposits
  • Reliable computer with camera and microphone, high-speed internet, and a quiet workspace
  • Strong technical troubleshooting skills (with guidance) and comfort navigating digital platforms

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring daily tutoring session logins and flagging issues in real time
  • Responding to tutor emergencies and no-shows, including stepping in to deliver tutoring sessions as needed
  • Providing technical support to tutors on an as-needed basis
  • Completing small operations tasks during lighter hours to support the team
