About The Position
The Dr. Julia N. Visor Academic Center, a division of University College at Illinois State University, aims to help students successfully transition to the university, achieve their educational goals, and realize their academic potential. The center provides specialized communities, programs, and services, including facilitated study groups, writing assistance, learning workshops, and developmental and transitional courses. Content tutors, such as for PSY 110, provide small-group tutoring on a weekly basis for lower-level courses. This application is for an applicant pool, and applications will be reviewed mid-semester or when staffing changes occur.
Requirements
- Applicants must have an overall GPA of at least 2.80
- A grade of A or high B is usually required in the course(s) in which the candidate is applying to tutor
- Must be friendly
- Desire to be helpful
- Must be able to communicate effectively
- Must be able to effectively communicate on a daily basis
Nice To Haves
- Proficient in the area in which they desire to tutor
- Able to convey knowledge clearly via the spoken and written word
- 3.00 GPA (for priority consideration)
- Additional courses in the subject area applied for
Responsibilities
- Provide small-group tutoring on a weekly basis for lower level courses at Illinois State University
- Complete other tasks as assigned by graduate assistant supervisors and the Coordinator of Academic Support Services
