About The Position
The Dr. Julia N. Visor Academic Center, a division of University College at Illinois State University, aims to help students successfully transition to the university, achieve their educational goals, and realize their academic potential. The center provides various services, including facilitated study groups, writing assistance, learning workshops, and developmental and transitional courses. Content tutors within the Visor Center are responsible for providing small-group tutoring on a weekly basis for lower-level courses at Illinois State University.
Requirements
- Overall GPA of at least 2.80
- A grade of A or high B is usually required in the course(s) in which the candidate is applying to tutor
- Must be friendly, desire to be helpful, and must be able to communicate effectively
- Effectively communicate on a daily basis
Nice To Haves
- Proficient in the area in which they desire to tutor and be able to convey that knowledge clearly via the spoken and written word
- Priority consideration will be given to those with a 3.00 GPA
- Additional courses in the subject area applied for would be preferred
Responsibilities
- Provide small-group tutoring on a weekly basis for lower level courses at Illinois State University
- Provide help tailored to each student's needs
- Perform other tasks as assigned by graduate assistant supervisors and the Coordinator of Academic Support Services
