About The Position

The Dr. Julia N. Visor Academic Center, a division of University College, aims to help students successfully transition to Illinois State University, achieve their educational goals, and realize their academic potential. This is accomplished through specialized communities, programs, and services such as facilitated study groups, writing assistance, learning workshops, and developmental and transitional courses. The tutor's primary role is to provide tailored help to students, requiring them to be friendly, helpful, and effective communicators. While tutoring is the main responsibility, tutors will also perform other tasks assigned by graduate assistant supervisors and the Coordinator of Academic Support Services. Content tutors specifically provide small-group tutoring on a weekly basis for lower-level courses at Illinois State University. This application is for an applicant pool, and applications will be reviewed mid-semester as demand for subjects increases or staffing changes occur.

Requirements

• Applicants must have an overall GPA of at least 2.80
• A grade of A or high B is usually required in the course(s) in which the candidate is applying to tutor
• Must be friendly
• Desire to be helpful
• Must be able to communicate effectively
• Must be able to complete functional expectations with or without a reasonable accommodation: Effectively communicate on a daily basis

Nice To Haves

• Proficient in the area in which they desire to tutor
• Able to convey that knowledge clearly via the spoken and written word
• 3.00 GPA (priority consideration)
• Additional courses in the subject area applied for
