About The Position

SOWELA is seeking a Tutor for Anatomy and Physiology within the Enrollment Management & Student Affairs division, specifically in Student Services. This unclassified tutor position starts at $14.50 per hour, with the rate determined by education and experience. The role involves preparing for and conducting tutoring sessions, maintaining confidentiality, encouraging student independence, and providing support for lab practicals. The tutor will also participate in required training and complete administrative tasks such as timesheets and paperwork.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • An A or B grade in Anatomy and Physiology I – lecture and lab, exempt from the course, or an instructor recommendation.
  • An A or B grade in the course(s) to be tutored, exempt from the course, or an instructor recommendation.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, team environment with both small and large groups.
  • Ability to work with a diverse, non-traditional, and traditionally underserved population.
  • Proficiency in the use of standard office equipment and networked personal computers.
  • Proficiency in or ability to become proficient in a variety of software, including but not limited to Microsoft Office.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Skilled at planning, organizing, and prioritizing job duties to meet deadlines.
  • Maintaining interpersonal professional working relationship at all levels – students, peers, and faculty.
  • Passing pre-employment criminal background screen is required as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare for tutoring sessions by reviewing any notes, handouts, and/or bookwork, if available.
  • Be punctual, begin all sessions promptly, use time for academic tasks, and focus on the student’s needs.
  • Notify A&P Faculty of any schedule change needs within twenty-four hours.
  • Participate in tutoring training through the Office of Student Services.
  • Participate in lab materials/equipment training provided by Biology Faculty.
  • Complete bi-weekly timesheets.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality about academic progress and/or personal information concerning students.
  • Encourage student independence and suggest appropriate learning strategies and study tips while giving respect and honest feedback.
  • Responsible for keeping consistent, accurate and updated paperwork.
  • Utilize available resources and materials.
  • Provide study sessions for students preparing for lab practical.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary.
