About The Position

The Dr. Julia N. Visor Academic Center, a division of University College at Illinois State University, aims to assist students in successfully transitioning to the university, achieving their educational goals, and realizing their academic potential from their first year onward. The center provides various specialized communities, programs, and services, including facilitated study groups, writing assistance, learning workshops, and developmental and transitional courses. Content tutors specifically offer small-group tutoring on a weekly basis for lower-level courses at Illinois State University. This application is for an applicant pool, and applications will be reviewed mid-semester as demand for subjects increases or staffing changes occur.

Requirements

• Overall GPA of at least 2.80.
• A grade of A or high B in the course(s) in which the candidate is applying to tutor.
• Friendly.
• Desire to be helpful.
• Able to communicate effectively.

Nice To Haves

• Proficient in the area in which they desire to tutor.
• Able to convey knowledge clearly via the spoken and written word.
• 3.00 GPA (priority consideration).
• Additional courses in the subject area applied for.

Responsibilities

• Provide small-group tutoring on a weekly basis for lower level courses at Illinois State University.
• Provide help tailored to each student's needs.
• Communicate effectively.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by graduate assistant supervisors and the Coordinator of Academic Support Services.
