About The Position

The Turret Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC turret punch machines to produce high-quality sheet metal parts according to engineering specifications. This skilled role includes reading and interpreting blueprints, selecting proper materials, monitoring machine performance, performing quality inspections, and supporting efficient workflow on the production floor. Operators must follow all safety procedures, maintain a clean work environment, and ensure accuracy and consistency throughout each job.

Requirements

  • Prior experience operating CNC turret punch machines required.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, work orders, and job packets.
  • Proficient with basic shop math and geometry.
  • Skilled in the use of measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Understanding of metal types, gauges, fabrication processes, and cutting tolerances.
  • Familiarity with material handling and loading/unloading sheet metal.
  • Basic computer skills; experience with CAD/CAM or machine-specific software is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot CNC turret punch machines.
  • Configure machine tooling, punches, dies, work-holding fixtures, offsets, and program parameters as specified.
  • Load and verify proper raw materials (type, thickness, gauge) and safely load/unload metal sheets.
  • Inspect and record part dimensions using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, gauge pins, and other measurement tools.
  • Recognize, report, and troubleshoot issues when parts do not meet specifications.
  • Maintain accurate part counts, job information, and labor data in a timely manner.
  • Perform secondary operations as needed while machines are cycling (deburring, sorting, packaging, etc.).
  • Unload, stack, package, or transfer finished parts to the next operation.
  • Remove, sort, and dispose of scrap material.
  • Perform routine machine checks, basic preventative maintenance, and ensure equipment is functioning properly.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including sweeping, cleaning cutting tables, emptying scrap bins, and handling materials via pallet jack or forklift.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned and required.
