About The Position

This role involves setting up and operating CNC Lathes. The machinist will manage tooling life, adjust, change offsets, and modify programs as needed. A key responsibility is interpreting blueprints to ensure parts are machined to specifications. The job also requires following procedures to set up fixturing, cutting tools, and other support equipment for machining parts. A general understanding of applying cutting tools, calculating feeds, speeds, and depths of cut is necessary. The machinist must be able to read and interpret CNC G-code and programming languages, as well as understand and modify CNC work offsets, tool radius offsets, and other parameters for CNC toolpath. Proficiency in using calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and other quality control devices is essential for adjusting programs and tool parameters to achieve quality standards. Maintaining machine preventive maintenance and cleanliness, along with keeping the surrounding work area clean and organized, are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and understand blueprints including GD&T tolerancing with profile tolerancing preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years’ experience setting up CNC lathe machines.
  • Experience editing CNC machine programs and writing basic programs.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Frequently required to stand and walk.
  • Occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

  • Mill turn manufacturing experience is helpful.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing a plus but not required.
