About The Position

Performs specialized work conducting and directing recreational programs and activities at a designated park, playground or other recreational facility. Promotes good relationships with neighborhood and activity groups. May lead one or more personnel when engaged in activities requiring additional recreation staff. Responsible for professional recreation work in directing specified activities at recreation facilities or major playgrounds. Assists in providing a healthy and safe environment for the general public visiting the facility. Recognizes, corrects and reports safety issues to supervisor. Ability to perform tasks which require physical ability in a safe/efficient manner in a variety of weather conditions. Participates directly in the planning and execution of programs and special events. Leads year-round programming at the recreation facility which may include being assigned to a specific population. Coordinates a variety of programs which may include after school, school break and summer programs. Works extensively with assigned population providing mentoring and guidance. Ability to work a varied schedule based upon the needs of the facility.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED
One (1) year of recreation experience
Possession of and ability to maintain a valid State of Florida Driver's License
Computer literate including Microsoft Office Suite

Responsibilities

Directing specified activities at recreation facilities or major playgrounds.
Assisting in providing a healthy and safe environment for the general public visiting the facility.
Recognizing, correcting and reporting safety issues to supervisor.
Performing tasks which require physical ability in a safe/efficient manner in a variety of weather conditions.
Participating directly in the planning and execution of programs and special events.
Leading year-round programming at the recreation facility which may include being assigned to a specific population.
Coordinating a variety of programs which may include after school, school break and summer programs.
Working extensively with assigned population providing mentoring and guidance.
Working a varied schedule based upon the needs of the facility.
Instructing individuals and groups.
Carrying out in-service training.
Suggesting and initiating new innovative activities and programs.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
Maintaining clear and comprehensive records and reports as specified by the department.
Scheduling and maintaining a staff at the assigned facility.
Maintaining cash receipt reports and point of sale function at the assigned facility.
Managing groups of program participants with a variety of backgrounds and personalities.
Relating to assigned population while maintaining professional boundaries and setting an outstanding example of personal excellence.
Exercising supervision over designated programs and facility volunteers.
Interacting with the public including facility patrons, program participants and even attendees.
