About The Position

Ampera is looking for a Turbomachinery Design Engineer to design and develop radial compressors, radial inflow turbines, and related rotating hardware for advanced energy systems. The role focuses on non-air working fluids such as supercritical CO₂, inert gases, and refrigerants, with responsibility spanning design, analysis, prototyping, and test support. This is a full-time, design-focused engineering role based in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The role is eligible for hybrid work, subject to project needs and manager approval. During prototype builds, assembly activities, or test campaigns, extended on-site presence will be required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience designing turbomachinery or other high-speed rotating equipment
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar CAD tools and experience creating detailed engineering drawings
  • Working knowledge of CFD, FEA, rotordynamics, or related engineering analysis methods
  • Ability to support hardware builds, testing, troubleshooting, and design iteration in a fast-moving development environment

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with radial compressors, radial turbines, turboexpanders, or similar hardware
  • Familiarity with non-air working fluids such as supercritical CO₂, inert gases, refrigerants, ORC fluids, or cryogenic fluids
  • Previous experience with AxStream and/or Ansys turbomachinery workflows
  • Candidates should be prepared to discuss or share examples of relevant design work, subject to confidentiality obligations

Responsibilities

  • Design radial compressors, radial inflow turbines, and supporting rotating hardware for supercritical CO₂, inert gas, and refrigerant systems
  • Develop flow-path and mechanical components including impellers, nozzles, diffusers, shafts, bearings, housings, and seals
  • Perform engineering analysis using CAD, CFD, FEA, rotordynamics tools, and hand calculations
  • Create production-ready models, drawings, and documentation, and work with suppliers and manufacturing to release hardware
  • Support prototype assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and design updates based on test results
  • Collaborate with thermal, controls, manufacturing, and test teams to integrate turbomachinery into complete systems
