About The Position

Mott MacDonald is seeking adaptable and highly motivated civil, geotechnical, or structural engineers to serve as Engineer IV within their tunnels resource group. This role focuses on underground design and construction projects in the transportation and water/wastewater sectors. The Engineer IV will play a key role in delivering innovative solutions for challenging infrastructure assignments, working with a collaborative team of geo-structural experts. Requirements

  • Bachelors in civil, structural or geotechnical engineering is required.
  • Professional engineer (PE) license in New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts or ability to obtain a license within 12 months.
  • 5-8 years of experience in engineering consultancy (not including education).
  • Proficient in the use of structural software: STRAND7, SAP, STAAD or equivalent.
  • Proficient in the use of geotechnical software, this may include Plaxis, GeoStudio packages/Slide, Rocscience packages, geotechnical data management (GINT/Holebase).
  • Demonstrable record in design with experience in geotechnical engineering, ground characterization for soil and rock and a working knowledge of concrete, steel and foundation design.
  • Strong references from past managers or clients.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters in a related field is preferred.
  • NCTI Certified is preferred.
  • Experience in New York preferred.
  • A working knowledge of BIM tools (Bentley/Autodesk) would also be advantageous.
  • Interest in underground design and construction for the transport, water or waste water Sectors.
  • Multidisciplinary working experience would also be advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of existing tunnelling projects in the U.S. and Canada.
  • Oversight of staff and execution of field investigation programs to collect data for design, condition assessments, and report preparation.
  • Contribution to detailed analysis for projects involving tunnels and underground structures.
  • Development of field instrumentation programs and evaluation of collected data.
  • Management of staff producing design solutions, reports, and contributions to/reviews of specifications and drawings.
  • Writing reports for submission to clients, including design-related technical memoranda and Reports.
  • Direct client engagement working with guidance from senior management, including liaising with clients, responding to queries, and attending design and progress meetings.
  • Contribution to and preparation of proposals for submission to clients.
  • Ability to lay out/develop a design program and independently manage a team of staff.
  • Managing and mentoring junior/graduate engineers and supporting their development.
