DESCRIPTION OF WORK This position supports safe and efficient travel through tunnels and nearby roadways by performing maintenance, monitoring conditions, and responding to incidents. As a Tunnel Maintainer, you will perform the following duties: Tunnel Maintenance: Perform maintenance tasks that include cleaning facilities, removing debris, and preserving tunnel structures Incident Response: Assist with traffic affecting events by removing debris, helping motorists, and restoring normal flow Monitoring Operations: Observe tunnel conditions for traffic issues, safety concerns, and abnormal situations Safety Communication: Use clear communication with staff and responders to maintain awareness during operations Equipment Operation: Operate vehicles and tools required for towing, washing, and work zone deployment Interested in learning more? Work hours vary based on operational needs. Shifts can range from the following and will include a 30-minute lunch: 9:30 PM–5:30 AM 5:30 AM–1:30 PM 1:30 PM–9:30 PM Travel and overtime are required. Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position . Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $53,141 (before taxes). Requirements

  • Two years of experience in roadway maintenance and repair, emergency services, towing and roadside assistance, or traffic control work
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations
  • Demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission
  • Possess an active Pennsylvania Class A Commercial Driver’s License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed, or equivalent on their first day of employment
  • Obtain within the probationary period an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders
  • Additional certifications issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation on assigned pieces of equipment during the probationary period
  • Able to perform essential job functions
