About The Position

The Tunnel Fit-out & Construction Lead is responsible for leading and coordinating tunnel fit-out construction activities on major rail transit infrastructure projects delivered by Trillium Rail Partners (TRP). This role oversees the installation, coordination, and integration of tunnel systems and infrastructure following completion of primary civil and structural works. Working within a complex design-build / P3 environment, the Tunnel Fit Out & Construction Lead coordinates multidisciplinary construction activities related to tunnel architectural, mechanical, electrical, communications, fire/life safety, drainage, trackside, and systems infrastructure to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient delivery in alignment with project schedules and operational requirements.

Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience in tunnel construction, underground infrastructure, or tunnel fit-out works on major infrastructure or transit projects.
  • Strong understanding of underground construction coordination and systems integration.
  • Experience in design-build and/or P3 project environments is highly desirable.
  • Experience working in urban, brownfield, or live-operating rail environments is considered an asset.
  • Experience managing unionized construction workforces is an asset.
  • Strong leadership and coordination capabilities in safety-critical underground environments.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong understanding of tunnel construction sequencing, fit-out activities, and systems interfaces.
  • Ability to manage multiple contractors, priorities, and work fronts simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with construction management and coordination tools (e.g., MS Office, Bluebeam; BIM experience is an asset).

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate tunnel fit-out activities, including installation of cable trays, tunnel ventilation systems, lighting, fire/life safety systems, drainage systems, walkways, architectural finishes, and ancillary infrastructure.
  • Oversee day-to-day construction activities within tunnel environments to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and construction methodologies.
  • Coordinate fit-out sequencing with track installation, systems integration, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Coordinate tunnel fit-out interfaces between civil, track, systems, mechanical, electrical, communications, and operations teams.
  • Support integration of tunnel systems with stations, guideways, emergency egress infrastructure, and operational systems.
  • Manage construction logistics, access planning, material delivery, and work sequencing within constrained underground environments.
  • Champion a strong safety culture focused on underground construction hazards, confined space work, and rail corridor safety.
  • Ensure compliance with TRP safety policies, regulatory requirements, tunnel safety procedures, and applicable codes and standards.
  • Oversee QA/QC inspections, testing activities, deficiency management, and close-out for tunnel fit-out works.
  • Collaborate with design and technical teams to resolve constructability issues and maintain alignment with design intent.
  • Review and support approval of shop drawings, RFIs, work plans, method statements, and technical submittals related to tunnel fit-out activities.
  • Coordinate implementation of design revisions and field changes impacting tunnel systems and infrastructure.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, and multidisciplinary project teams involved in tunnel fit-out delivery.
  • Liaise with systems integration, testing, and commissioning teams to support operational readiness.
  • Support coordination with authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), emergency services, and transit stakeholders as required.
  • Monitor construction progress, productivity, and milestone achievement for tunnel fit-out scopes.
  • Identify and mitigate construction risks, interface conflicts, and logistical challenges.
  • Prepare progress updates, reports, and documentation related to tunnel construction activities.
  • Support integrated testing, commissioning, and turnover activities for tunnel systems and infrastructure.
  • Ensure completion of as-built documentation, deficiency close-out, and operational handover requirements.
  • Coordinate readiness activities leading to revenue service and operational acceptance.
