We adhere to our quality systems framework, which is the keystone of our success. Your new role: We are seeking qualified applicants focused on the safe operation and navigation of a tugboat vessel. The tugboat mate will be responsible to the captain for managing five crew members and ensuring they are completing their required duties. Assumption of command should the Master become incapacitated. Identify potential vessel hazards associated with deck operations and advise the Master accordingly. Stand a wheelhouse watch, when directed by the Master. Familiarization and training of new Deck personnel. Planning and execution of all cargo operations, including loading, stowage, discharge, and loading ballast, under the direction of the Master. Supervise a Cargo Watch, performing cargo operations and PIC duties as required. The proper keeping of all appropriate cargo and stability records and plans. Supervision of shore repairs in the absence of a Superintendent in conjunction with the Chief Engineer, as applicable.

Requirements

  • Must have experience as a U.S.C.G. MOTV licensed Captain with towing and endorsements for Western Rivers, Oceans, and/or Near Coastal waters.
  • Must have a valid TWIC (receipts NOT accepted).
  • Have a valid riggers certification from a recognized issuing authority.
  • Must have a valid DL
  • Ability to meet USCG physical examination requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • A valid passport is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Managing five crew members and ensuring they are completing their required duties.

  • Familiarization and training of new Deck personnel.

  • Supervise a Cargo Watch, performing cargo operations and PIC duties as required.
  • The proper keeping of all appropriate cargo and stability records and plans.
  • Supervision of shore repairs in the absence of a Superintendent in conjunction with the Chief Engineer, as applicable.
  • Maintain the vessel budget and help maximize cost efficiency as directed
  • Complete required log entries and maintain radio watch as required
  • Give assignments and directions to the lead deckhand
