About The Position

The Tufting Machine Operator (TMO) is responsible for the overall operation and performance of the tufting machine to which they are assigned. This includes machine setup, monitoring, routine maintenance, and quality control of finished products. The operator must demonstrate strong attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.

Requirements

Previous experience operating machinery in a warehouse or manufacturing setting
Ability to handle materials and perform basic materials handling tasks
Organizational skills and attention to detail
Time management with a proven ability to meet deadlines
High school diploma or equivalent
Ability to lift 50 pounds
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift
Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, or crouch as needed to perform job duties
Ability to use hands and fingers for repetitive motions, including grasping, handling, and operating tools or controls
Ability to push or pull light materials, carts, or pallets
Ability to reach above shoulder level or below waist level as required
Ability to visually inspect materials, labels, and equipment, including close vision and color differentiation
Ability to hear alarms, machine sounds, and verbal instructions in a production environment
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that may include noise, heat, dust, or moving machinery

Responsibilities

Oversee creelers and ensure the creel is loaded with the correct yarn and is being tied correctly
Oversee menders to ensure the turf is being properly inspected and mended
Ensure all paperwork (roll tags, creel out tags, and production orders) is filled out correctly
Run the machine, which entails threading needles, fixing pull-downs, changing blades and hooks, and changing backing when needed
Get a work order from the supervisor
Perform weight checks after the machine is set up and tied in, and sign off on the work order
Make sure yarn lots are correct
Lay out the first tufted roll on the floor for inspection and ensure the work order is signed off by QC or supervisor
Perform other quality checks such as inspecting for streaks throughout the width of the roll, streaks from texture, dark line/band, light line/band, low line, shag line, and crossed end on A/B Thread up
Make sure there is enough backing to run the roll
Manage the creel to ensure yarn is in the creel and cut back if needed
Check all roll sizes
Determine the status of yarn when nearing the end of a work order to decide whether yarn will stay on the machine or if the creel needs to be stripped
Turn in work order to supervisor
Question anything that seems incorrect with the supervisor
Always stop the machine if anything seems unsafe
Responsible for additional duties and accountabilities that will be assigned as needed
