About The Position

Coughlin & Gerhart, LLP is seeking a full-time attorney admitted in New York State with at least three years of experience to join our Trusts & Estates Practice Group in our Bainbridge office. Coughlin & Gerhart proudly dates back to the 1890s and has grown to include nine offices in New York and Pennsylvania. Requirements

  • Current New York Bar admission.
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • 3+ years of Trusts & Estates experience preferred.
  • Strong desire to further legal skills.
  • Must be skillful in managing situations requiring diplomacy, fairness, firmness and sound judgement.
  • Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and promptly respond to client needs.
  • Ability to write in a clear, concise, and effective manner.
  • Excellent verbal communication and advocacy skills.
  • Ability to perform quick and reliable research.
  • Strong analytical, research, and writing skills.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate and convey information effectively in person, by email, and telephone.
  • Committed to legal profession and teamwork approach.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the firm’s clients in the estate planning process.
  • Draft a variety of estate planning and trust administration documents.
  • Assist clients with trust funding and provide appropriate guidance.
  • Prepare and assemble federal estate tax returns.
  • Demonstrate understanding of Surrogate’s Court / Probate Court processes, including court filings and procedural requirements.
  • Manage trust and probate administration matters and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Interpret applicable laws, rulings, and regulations related to estate planning, probate, and trust administration.
  • Provide sound judgment with strong attention to detail in all matters.
  • Utilize analytical and research skills to support case work.
  • Maintain excellent interpersonal and communication skills when working with clients, courts, and internal teams.
