About The Position

Truck operator is an entry level position. You will be assisting in the construction of new and used transmission lines that will consist of wood, concrete, and steel structured lines spread statewide through Georgia. This position requires heavy manual labor and weekly travel. Travel expenses and hotel cost are the responsibility of the truck operator and a daily per diem (allowance) will be provided to help cover these costs. The current rate is $178 a day for those employees accruing overnight lodging and working 50 miles from home. This is an item covered by the Memorandum of Agreement between Georgia Power Company and the IBEW Local No. 84. This position is subject to call out, scheduled overtime, and storm restoration work.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working outdoors in a labor-intensive occupation
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Must currently have a Class A unrestricted commercial driver’s license or permit prior to start of employment.
  • Must pass a pre-employment CAST test (basic mechanical aptitude) and Post Offer Employment Test.
  • A thorough background check, drug screen, DOT physical, and workers compensation questionnaire will be required prior to employment.
  • Candidate must currently weight (and maintain their body weight) below 300 lb. fully dressed including steel-toed boots and hard hat.

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates who have earned the ELAC (Electrical Line Worker Apprentice Certification) through a technical college is highly desirable
  • Background in commercial driving, equipment operations, or equipment rigging is desired
  • Minimum of 1 year of work experience in utility construction, heavy industrial maintenance/construction, military, and/or electrical experience is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the construction of new and used transmission lines.
  • Performing heavy manual labor.
  • Traveling weekly.
  • Working in all weather conditions throughout the year that may include heat, rain, ice, and snow.
  • Performing assigned storm duties, which may include nighttime, weekend, holidays, and overnight travels.
