About The Position

Skilled mechanic familiar with commercial vehicles, performing diagnoses and troubleshooting of most vehicle issues with little or no assistance. Completes jobs within a given time frame and maintains a 75% return-free work record. Previously worked as a C Class technician, has at least 3 years of experience and holds 2 certifications, 1 of which must be engine.

Requirements

  • UTI/Lincoln Tech/Pennco Tech (or similar) Certification and a minimum of 3 years’ related experience, including work as a C-Class service technician.
  • Experience and certifications may be substituted for formal program certification.
  • Experience repairing Class 8 trucks and buses (i.e.: Blue Bird, Freightliner, Western Star, Detroit, Cummins, CAT, Eaton, Meritor, Allison, Ford and DT12 trucks, etc.)
  • Engine, Transmission, Air & Emissions Systems exp (EPA07, EPA10+)
  • Computerized diagnostic skills
  • 21+ years' old (for auto insurance purposes) & able to lift 100 lbs.
  • Valid/clean driver's license
  • Willing/able to obtain certifications (Company paid training)
  • Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Must be able to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively with customers or other employees of the organization.
  • Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Tools necessary to perform the job and regular, reliable attendance required

Responsibilities

  • Timely completion of work according to repair orders. Work is accurate, efficient, and in accordance with dealership and factory standards
  • Diagnose cause of most moderately complex malfunctions and perform repairs with limited supervision
  • Communicate appropriately and effectively with individuals of all levels across the Organization
  • Confirm that all cores are returned to the Parts Department and warranty parts are properly tagged and returned to the parts dept.
  • Examine assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended
  • Communicate with Shop Foreman immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time
  • Document all work performed and recommended on the repair order
  • Participate in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events
  • Report machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor
  • Ensure customers' vehicle is kept clean. Notify Shop Foreman immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle
  • Keep shop area neat and clean
  • Maintains, and is accountable for, dealership-owned tools and manuals, returning them to the proper place and in the same condition as they were received
  • Understand, keep abreast of, and comply with manufacturer technical bulletins, federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
  • Operate tools and equipment in a safe manner
  • Report any safety issues immediately to Shop Foreman
  • Perform all tasks assigned by Shop Foreman, Service Manager, or management
  • Road test vehicles when required or refer to test technician
  • May supervisor work of apprentice technicians
