About The Position

This is a highly skilled mechanic position requiring expertise in Freightliner, Western Star, Detroit, Cummins, and Allison. The role involves performing quality repairs efficiently, aiming for a 98%-100% return-free work rate. The mechanic will frequently handle complex diagnoses and troubleshooting independently, and will also be responsible for training and guiding less experienced technicians. Collaboration with the Shop Foreman is expected to establish repair strategies based on job priorities. Previous experience as a B Class Technician with at least 5 years of experience, and engine and chassis certification are required.

Requirements

  • UTI/Lincoln Tech/Pennco Tech (or similar) Certification and a minimum of 5 years’ related experience, including work as a B-Class service technician. Experience and certifications may be substituted for formal program certification.
  • Able to read, analyze, and interpret work orders, service information, wiring diagrams, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Able to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from technicians, groups of managers, clients, and customers.
  • Able to apply common sense understanding and practical problem solving to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • 5 years’ experience repairing Class 8 trucks and buses (e.g., Blue Bird, Ford, Freightliner, Western Star, Detroit, Cummins, CAT, Eaton, Meritor, Allison and DT12 trucks, etc.).
  • Engine, Transmission, Air & Emissions Systems experience (EPA07, EPA10+).
  • Computerized diagnostic skills.
  • 21+ years' old (for auto insurance purposes).
  • Able to lift 100 lbs.
  • Valid/clean driver's license.
  • Willing/able to obtain certifications (Company paid training).

  • Experience specific to above noted vehicles.
  • Certifications for any of the above noted vehicles.
  • Current CDL, clear of violations/accidents, accompanied by DOT medical cert.
  • Valid license in good standing with no major or minor accidents in the last 5 years.

Responsibilities

  • Timely completion of work according to repair orders, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to dealership and factory standards.
  • Engage in complex diagnoses of malfunctions and performance issues, performing repairs or overseeing other technicians.
  • Communicate appropriately and effectively with all individuals across the Organization.
  • Supervise work of lower-level technicians as assigned.
  • Confirm return of all cores to the Parts Department and proper tagging and storage of warranty parts.
  • Examine assigned vehicles to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
  • Communicate with Shop Foreman immediately regarding any additional work needed, work that is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
  • Submit complete and accurate write-ups for each repair completed and recommended on the repair order.
  • Participate in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events.
  • Report machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Ensure customers' vehicles are kept clean and notify Shop Foreman immediately of any changes to the vehicle's appearance or condition.
  • Maintain a neat and clean shop area.
  • Maintain and be accountable for dealership-owned tools and manuals, returning them to the proper place and in the same condition as received.
  • Understand, keep abreast of, and comply with manufacturer technical bulletins, federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
  • Operate tools and equipment in a safe manner.
  • Report any safety issues immediately to management.
  • Perform all tasks assigned by Shop Foreman, Service Manager, or management.
  • Road test vehicles when required or refer to test technician to verify satisfactory repair.
