About The Position

This position is responsible for assisting in picking-up donations by riding in a Salvation Army truck and lifting, carrying, and/or hauling donations into the truck and unloading the same at the warehouse. The role also involves assisting the Truck Driver with navigation, ensuring the safety and security of donations, and helping to maintain the vehicle.

Requirements

Six months experience lifting and hauling heavy items such as appliances and furniture, OR Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills or abilities.
Valid Driver’s License and eligible driver status under TSA Driver Program.

Nice To Haves

Ability to sit, walk, and stand on a frequent change basis.
Ability to lift objects weighing between 25-50 lbs.
Self-directed with ability to tolerate frequent interruptions.

Responsibilities

Rides in a Salvation Army truck on a scheduled route to pick-up donated items.
Assists in navigating the driver to destinations by reading a map and/or hand-written directions.
Inspects donated items briefly to ensure they can be used according to established policies and procedures.
Explains policy to customers regarding the types of items that can be accepted.
Lifts, carries, and/or hauls donations into the truck.
Packs items in the truck to maximize space, protect items from damage, and ensure safety.
Prepares donation receipts for customers, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Maintains a good relationship with donors to promote a favorable image of The Salvation Army.
Unloads donations from the truck upon arrival at the warehouse.
Distributes items to appropriate locations in the warehouse.
Maintains the vehicle in proper working order and in compliance with established standards.
