About The Position

This position is responsible for assisting in picking-up donations by riding in a Salvation Army truck and lifting, carrying, and/or hauling donations into the truck and unloading the same at the warehouse. The role also involves assisting the Truck Driver with navigation, ensuring the accountability, security, and safety of donations while in route, and assisting in maintaining the vehicle in proper working order and in compliance with established standards.

Requirements

No formal education required.
Six months experience lifting and hauling heavy items such as appliances and furniture, OR Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills or abilities.
Valid Driver’s License and eligible driver status under TSA Driver Program.

Nice To Haves

Ability to sit, walk, and stand on a frequent change basis in order to perform the duties of this position.
Ability to lift objects weighing between 25-50 lbs.
Must be self-directed with ability to tolerate frequent interruptions.

Responsibilities

Rides in a Salvation Army truck on a scheduled route to pick-up donated items.
Assists in navigating the driver to destinations by reading a map and/or hand-written directions.
Briefly inspects donated items to ensure they can be used according to established policies and procedures.
Explains policy to customers regarding the types of items that can be accepted.
Lifts, carries, and/or hauls donations into the truck.
Packs items in the truck to maximize space, protect items from damage, and ensure safety.
Prepares accurate and complete donation receipts for customers.
Maintains a good relationship with donors to promote a favorable image of The Salvation Army.
Unloads donations from the truck upon arrival at the warehouse.
Distributes items to appropriate locations in the warehouse.
