About The Position

This position is responsible for assisting in picking up donations by riding in a Salvation Army truck and lifting, carrying, and/or hauling donations into the truck and unloading the same at the warehouse. The role also involves assisting the Truck Driver with navigation, ensuring the accountability, security, and safety of donations in transit, and assisting in maintaining the vehicle. Additionally, the position assists customers with donations, locating and selecting store items, stocking and arranging store items, monitoring displays, and performing cleaning activities to maintain the store. Key Responsibilities include: Truck Helper Responsibilities: - Riding in a Salvation Army truck on a scheduled route to pick up donated items. - Assisting the driver with navigation using maps and/or hand-written directions. - Briefly inspecting donated items to ensure they can be used according to policy and explaining acceptance policies to customers. - Lifting, carrying, and hauling donations into the truck, packing them to maximize space, protect from damage, and ensure safety. - Preparing accurate and complete donation receipts for customers. - Maintaining a good relationship with donors to promote a favorable image of The Salvation Army. - Unloading donations from the truck at the warehouse and distributing them to appropriate locations. - Loading the truck with items to be taken to the dump. - Delivering appliances and furniture purchased by customers. - Performing routine truck maintenance, checking fluid levels, and coordinating/participating in repair work. Store Helper Responsibilities: - Assisting customers in donating, locating, and/or selecting store items. - Stocking and arranging store items in a neat and orderly manner. - Monitoring store displays. - Performing various cleaning activities to ensure the store is properly maintained.

Requirements

  • No formal education required
  • Six months experience lifting and hauling heavy items such as appliances and furniture, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language
  • Ability to read and follow a map and/or hand-written directions
  • Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects
  • Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to remain and become certified for job specific certifications, licenses and trainings
  • Physical ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull heavy objects (less than 100lbs)
  • Valid State Driver's License

Responsibilities

  • Lifts, carries, and/or hauls donations into truck
  • Packs items in truck in a manner that maximizes use of space, protects items from damage, and ensures safety
  • Prepares donation receipts for customers
  • Ensures the accuracy and completeness of the donation receipts
  • Maintains good relationship with donors to promote a favorable image of The Salvation Army
  • Unloads donations from truck upon arrival at warehouse
  • Distributes items to appropriate locations in the warehouse
  • Loads truck of items to be taken to the dump
  • Delivers appliances and furniture purchased by customers
  • Performs routine maintenance of the truck
  • Checks fluid levels on a regular basis
  • Coordinates and may participate in repair work as needed
