About The Position

This position operates a variety of equipment and is required to tow trailers in the Water and Sewer Construction crews. This position is responsible for daily maintenance of assigned equipment and may also be required to train other employees in the operation of tandem and single axle trucks. This position reports to a Crew Lead.

Requirements

  • Grade Twelve (12) or General Education Development (GED) equivalency.
  • One (1) year experience as an Equipment Operator III operating water and sewer construction Class III equipment competently.
  • Must obtain and maintain level one (1) Operator Certification, as identified under the Saskatchewan Water and Wastewater Works Operator Certification Standards in the category relevant to their operating area within one (1) year.
  • Thorough knowledge of the mechanics involved in the operation, care, and routine maintenance of water and sewer construction Class III equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of methods, materials, procedures, and operations associated with water and sewer construction activities.
  • Ability to provide direction and training to other employees who may be assigned as assistants.
  • Demonstrated ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds continually on a daily basis over sustained periods and in inclement conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow verbal and/or written instructions associated with work orders, procedure manuals, construction specifications drawings and plans, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability and initiative to work independently with a minimum of supervision.
  • Ability to provide written reports of the work completed and document any difficulties encountered.
  • Ability to charge out material requested and apply the correct account codes as required to provide proper inventory and budgetary control.
  • Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the general public.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate assigned equipment with skill and efficiency with due regard to safety measures which must be observed to protect both the public and fellow employees.

Responsibilities

  • Operate tandem and single axle trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 23,500 pounds or more and tow trailers up to 10,000 pounds.
  • Perform routine inspection, maintenance and minor repairs as necessary to ensure the equipment is kept in good operating condition.
  • Document time, equipment and material needed to complete appropriate work orders and tasks.
  • Interpret and follow construction plans as well as instructions of a semi-technical nature.
  • Provide direction and training for other employees as required.
  • Identify parts on site, purchases required replacement parts for use and use the correct account codes.
  • Follow all rules and regulations as set out in the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and the City of Regina Occupational Health and Safety manual.
