Our Values: Integrity Common Sense Innovation Accountability Position Data: Solid Waste Class A Driver II-J23-U13-H Regular Non-Exempt (eligible for overtime) Pay Rate: $27.44 - $34.80 per hour (B24 Step 1-13) Hiring Rate: $27.44 - $29.12 per hour (B24 Step 1-4 DOQ) Job Closing Date: 12/31/26 with weekly review starting 4/29/26. If position is filled, job posting will be closed prior to 12/31/26 date. There are multiple positions with the Yakima County Public Services-Solid Waste Division. This position operates a Class 8 truck with tandem drive, drop axle and 5th wheel pulling a 48-foot tri-axle walking floor transfer trailer for the purpose of transporting refuse from the transfer station to the landfill. Performs daily start up inspection, operational checks, and routine preventative maintenance on equipment. Operates other equipment as needed, such as front-end loaders, forklifts, wood grinder and water trucks.

Requirements

  • High School or (G.E.D.)
  • five (5) years equipment operation, road maintenance and/or construction experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Washington State Class ‘A’ Commercial Driver’s License with Air Brakes and Tanker Endorsements.
  • Consent for queries of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse to comply with Federal Regulations (49 CFR Part 382).

  • Communication, both oral and written, sufficient to receive direction and follow direction

Responsibilities

  • Operates a Class 8 truck with tandem drive, drop axle and 5th wheel pulling a 53 foot tri-axle walking floor trailer for the transport of refuse from the transfer station to the landfill.
  • Operates a variety of other equipment including, front-end loaders, forklifts, water trucks and wood grinder.
  • Performs daily start up vehicle inspection, operational checks and maintenance activities and reports repairs as needed.
  • Interacts with the public to ensure safety within the transfer station and landfill areas.
  • Applies appropriate customer service techniques.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
