About The Position

This role assists the truck driver with the daily transportation of used goods, new goods, contract supplies, and waste. The helper is responsible for collecting contributed goods, salvage material, contract supplies, and waste. They also assist in monitoring the truck, directing the driver, reading maps, moving merchandise, providing customer service to donors, organizing merchandise, maintaining a clean truck, and following company policies and safety procedures.

Requirements

  • Must be able to interact cordially and productively with a variety of people.
  • Must be able to market Goodwill and explain the mission to the general public.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of the service area and road systems.
  • Must be able to read and follow a street map.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule on short notice, including days, nights and weekends.
  • Must be able to lift and carry objects up to 50 #?s frequently and 100 #?s occasionally.
  • Must be able to engage in prolonged sitting in a moving vehicle.
  • Must be able to engage in prolonged standing, walking and in frequent bending, stooping, and stretching.
  • Must have vision corrected to within normal limits.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly in English.
  • Must be able to function in a hectic work environment with occasional periods of high stress.
  • High School diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
  • Transportation experience or training a plus.

Responsibilities

  • To assist the truck driver with the daily transportation of used goods, new goods, contract supplies and waste.
  • To collect contributed goods from private homes and businesses.
  • To collect salvage material, contract supplies and waste, as directed.
  • To assist in monitoring and servicing truck before each shift for proper operation. To inform the transportation director of necessary repairs and safety hazards.
  • To direct the truck driver while he/she is driving and parking the truck.
  • To read map and give truck driver directions. To assist the truck driver when backing or attempting to maneuver into a tight space.
  • To move merchandise throughout stores, sales floors and warehouse.
  • To render polite, responsive and courteous service to donors and to issue receipts.
  • To organize merchandise within Goodwill’s warehouse and/or retail locations.
  • To maintain a clean and hazard free truck.
  • To follow company policies and safety procedures.
  • To attend regularly, as scheduled.
