About The Position

Brazeau County is looking for a temporary Truck Driver to join our Public Works Maintenance team for a three month period, with the possibility of extension. During the summer season this position offers a great work life balance from Monday to Friday with occasional overtime work. The Truck Driver’s primary responsibility is to operate tridem and tandem trucks with various trailers and attachments to carry out road maintenance and construction tasks. The operator may be required to carry out other related duties in other areas.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • A valid Class 1 with Air Endorsement Driver’s License is required.
  • A satisfactory Five-Year Commercial Driver’s Abstract is required.
  • Minimum three years of Class 1 truck driving experience is required.
  • Must have three years experience operating both tridem and tandem trucks.
  • Strong service focus with good verbal and written communication skills are required to communicate effectively.
  • Must be highly capable to work independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to carry out physical labor.
  • Must be able to work for the duration of the season.

Nice To Haves

  • Roadway maintenance experience is considered an asset.
  • Ability to operate other equipment including loaders is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Operates tridem and tandem trucks equipped with various attachments (water tank, dump boxes, dump trailers, equipment trailers, sand trucks with front mounted plow and side mounted blade wing attachments).
  • Operates a wheel loader to load sand, salt and gravel into trucks and trailers, and operates a loader with snowblower and or blade as required.
  • Services and performs minor maintenance on assigned equipment and vehicles.
  • Logs hours and complies with the Traffic Safety Act.
  • Performs various labourer duties as required.
  • Adheres to guidelines as set out in Brazeau County’s policies and administrative directives, and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Accountable for working in compliance with the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, regulations, and codes, and participates in the Health and Safety Program.
  • Overtime and weekend work will be required as necessary for operational needs.
  • Shift work may be implemented as required, including emergency response callouts.
  • To undertake any other reasonable duty, commensurate with the classification and responsibility of the position, across the department to meet service priorities and business continuity requirements.
  • May be required in the event of a municipal emergency to support the emergency operations centre and incident action/recovery plan.
