About The Position

Phifer Incorporated has an opening in their Tuscaloosa facility for a Long Haul Truck Driver. This position is responsible for transporting Phifer products in a safe and professional manner to customers cross country and to Canada. Phifer strives to provide a good work/life balance for their long haul drivers.

Requirements

  • Must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License
  • Must possess a safe driving record.
  • Must pass Department of Transportation physical examination.
  • Must be at least 25 years of age.
  • Must pass driving test.
  • Must have or be able to acquire a passport
  • Negative DOT pre-employment drug test.
  • Must complete Employer Accident and drug/alcohol testing history.
  • Driving Record showing medical certification status
  • Must have a minimum of two years' cross country experience in driving a diesel tractor with trailer.
  • Must have 2-3 years of experience operating a Electronic Logging Device (ELD)
  • Must be able to present an acceptable CSA score.
  • Must have an acceptable pre-employment screening program PSP report.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer material handling equipment experience.
  • Prefer high school diploma or GED

Responsibilities

  • Will drive truck to destination, applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations and skill in maneuvering vehicle in difficult situations, such as narrow passageways.
  • Will maneuver truck into loading or unloading position, following signals from loading crew as needed
  • Will drive truck to weigh station before and after loading, and along route to document weight and conform to individual state regulations
  • Will maintain driver log according to I.C.C. regulations via electronic logs
  • Will inspect truck before, during, and after trips and submit reports indicating truck condition
  • Will obtain shipping bills of lading and necessary signatures and return completed paper work to shipping office
  • Will manually load or unload or assist in manually loading and unloading of truck
  • Will perform miscellaneous service duties such as checking on a daily basis oil, water, gasoline or diesel fuel, and air in tires. Will report any maintenance malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Will chock rear wheels of truck or trailer before any unloading takes place
  • Will secure loads by using straps or other securement devices
  • May use hand truck to rearrange loads in shipping department area
  • May sweep out truck body
  • May switch empty/full trailers in shipping yard for optimum loading patterns
  • May be assigned other department duties as determined by management
