About The Position

Ryder is hiring a Class A CDL solo truck driver based in Columbus, Ohio. The driver delivers commercial and residential garage doors across North Dakota, Texas, states east of those locations, and Canada. The position uses sleeper tractors with APUs and dry van and Conestoga trailers; Conestoga experience is preferred. Freight is touch, with driver assistance on dry van loads, and load securement uses strapping. Drivers are home every other week and may bring a person and/or pet on the road. Trucks are described as well-maintained, safe, and 36 months old or newer, with 24/7 roadside maintenance and fueling available at more than 800 nationwide maintenance locations. Pay is weekly and averages $1,950 per week. The role offers paid training, a quarterly safety bonus of $250, and a $3,000 sign-on bonus paid in two installments: $1,500 at 30 days and $1,500 at 90 days. Ryder describes company drivers as having autonomy to make safety decisions, with support during the transition from owner-operator trucks and throughout their careers.

Requirements

Be at least 21 years of age.
Pass a Ryder drug test.
Pass a Ryder background and motor vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last three years.
Pass a DOT physical.
Pass a Ryder road test.
Provide the appropriate CDL and endorsements for the position.
Have verifiable Class A experience in a tractor-trailer or comparable vehicle: 9 months within the past 3 years, or 2 years within the last 5 years, or 5 years within the last 10 years.
Be able to follow written and/or oral instructions.
Be able to read, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and/or procedures.

Nice To Haves

Conestoga trailer experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Comply with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, agency rules, standards, and guidelines.
Detect, eliminate, or minimize safety hazards.
Maintain accurate records and logs.
Load and unload freight, or assist with loading and unloading if required by the customer.
Perform other duties as assigned.
