About The Position

Ryder is seeking a Class A CDL Truck Driver for a flexible position in Danville, VA. This role offers competitive weekly pay, averaging $1600, with top earners reaching $1750 or more. Compensation includes solo miles pay ($0.53/mile for 2500-2800 miles/week), solo stops pay ($11.55/stop for 4 stops/week), per diem ($25/night for 3 nights/week), hourly pay ($25/hour when covering other Ryder accounts), travel time ($25.50/hour), and mileage reimbursement ($0.70 after 50 miles). Paid training is provided. The schedule varies with PM/AM dispatch times. Drivers will perform Over-The-Road (OTR) routes, delivering solo to various locations, and may cover multiple Ryder accounts. The position involves operating Sleeper, Day Cabs, and 26' Straight Trucks, as well as Dry Van, Reefer, and Flatbed (48', 53') trailers. Equipment used includes Electric and Manual Pallet Jacks, with training provided. Freight handling involves 'touch freight' which varies. Ryder's trucks are 36 months or newer, supported by 24/7 Roadside Maintenance, and company drivers can fuel at over 800 facilities nationwide. Requirements

  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • Pass a Ryder Drug Test
  • Pass a Ryder Background and Motor vehicle check including Drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years
  • Pass a DOT physical
  • Pass a Ryder road test
  • Provide appropriate CDL and endorsements for the position
  • Must have Class A verifiable experience in a tractor trailer or comparable vehicle: 9 months experience within the past 3 years, OR 2 years’ experience within the last 5 years, OR 5 years’ experience within the last 10 years
  • Ability to follow written and/or oral instructions
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply laws, rules, regulations policies and/or procedures
  • Cannot accommodate an automatic restriction

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/or agency rules, standards and guidelines
  • Detecting and eliminating or minimizing safety hazards
  • Maintaining accurate records and logs
  • Loading/Unloading freight or assisting in the loading/unloading of freight if required by customer
  • Performs other duties as assigned
